Sen. Edgardo J. Angara filed Monday his certificate of candidacy for governor in this province, becoming the first among aspirants for elective post to do on the first day of the official filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs).
Angara arrived at about 10:30 a.m. at the provincial office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the provincial Capitol compound here together with his running mate and nephew, Rommel Angara and outgoing Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo and the entire slate for board members of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP).
His COC was received by election assistant Eva Asuncion.
Asked why he filed his COC so early, Angara said that as the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm. “When you file early, that means you are ready,†he told newsmen.
Angara-Castillo, who also filed her COC for Congress, said one who wants to win in a race should be the first in the starting gate.
“If you want to be number one, you have to be the first,†she said.
There was no word yet on when Angara’s gubernatorial rival, Vice Gov. Gerardo Noveras would file his COC.
Also filing their COCs for board members under the LDP slate are newsman Bernie Rada, former Dipaculao mayor Danilo Tolentino, ex-San Luis councilor Ian Abordo and reelectionist board members Delia Valin, Philip Butch Bautista, Cesar Pimentel, Oscar Padua and Ruben Alipio Jr.
