Senator Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV was elated on Tuesday over the grant of amnesty by President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" C. Aquino III to all active and former personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who committed acts of war against the State.
Lawyer Rey Robles, legal counsel of Trillanes, on Tuesday said that the senator was happy about the amnesty granted him by the President.
Robles said that Trillanes considered such amnesty as a good step on the part of the new administration.
Robles added that the amnesty will provide Trillanes the opportunity to perform his duties and functions as a senator of the Republic.
President Aquino issued a proclamation granting amnesty to Trillanes and soldiers linked to the Oakwood Mutiny on July 27, 2003, the marine standoff last February 2006 and the Manila Peninsula siege on Nov. 29, 2007.
Under the amnesty, enlisted personnel are entitled to reintegration, however, officers are no longer entitled to reinstatement in the service.
The Department of National Defense (DND) will process the application for the amnesty. (PNA)
