Revealing this time his true feelings on the attempt to oust him as Lakas party provincial chairman, Gov. Erico Aumentado warned over-ambitious politicians to be cautious and prudent.
“
Ang tawong magdali, dali mapandol (a man in hurry easily stumbles),†the governor said when asked how he feels that some partymates want him to relinquish the provincial chairmanship considering that he is no longer eligible to run as governor in the May 10, 2010 elections. (obviously referring to Ondoy Cajes?)
“As I have said, there are processes that the party adopts and all these will be resolved with the sole purpose of maintaining the unity of the party. Mag-agad ta sa partido. Di lang ta magdali (let us not be hasty),†the governor added as the issue was raised again during the Friday regular radio program The Governor Reports.
Aumentado remains the provincial party chairman as well as regional chairman for the administration’s newly merged Lakas-CMD-Kampi political party.
The question on his provincial party chairmanship was reportedly raised by second district congressman Roberto Cajes during the meeting of Bohol leaders with political affairs Secretary Gabriel Claudio held in Manila last Sept. 25.
The exchange of words between Aumentado and Cajes was intense with both of them raising their voices that, reportedly, Arbitration Committee Chairman Butch Pechay has to douse the heat with his usual jokes; including a weird “toss-coin†solution to positioning conflicts.
The governor, however, said the exchange of words was a healthy discussion where sometimes one has to raise his voice to stress a point.
Cajes reportedly challenged Aumentado, offering that he too will relinquish his second district party chairmanship, and therefore the governor who is on his third and last term and no longer qualified to run as governor, must do likewise.
“Such eager moves show a hunger for power. Ako dili ko hakog sa gahom. I worked my way up and I was inching as provincial board member for 19 years, until I reach this position today,†the governor added.
Aumentado, who is on his more than forty years in public service, has no family member or immediate sibling joining politics that could have capitalize his present status as Bohol’s most influential leader and undefeated politician on record today.
Cajes meanwhile, on his third and last term as second district congressman, has a wife Judith Cajes, also in power as mayor of the town of Trinidad. Youth Commissioner and SK National Federation President Jane Censoria Cajes also show the making of a politician with her charisma and brilliance packed in one. Another daughter also sits as SK chairman in a barangay of Trinidad town.
A married daughter Bobbith Cajes-Auza was also a provincial federation SK chair and sat as ex-officio member of the provincial board for an extended term of 5 years.
“Paso balao lang ta (we walk cautiously),†Aumentado said, citing the move of a cockfight game-fowl “balao†who walks slow but sure and deadly.
