Forty-four percent of 1,200 adult Filipinos interviewed nationwide last month by pollster Social Weather Stations(SWS) has “high expectations†of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III keeping the promises he made in his first State-of-the-Nation-Address (SONA) last July.
SWS conducted the survey on September 24 to 27, which also indicated that 48 per cent said he is serving the interest of the poor and that 78 per cent was aware of his SONA.
Aquino is expected by the 44 per cent “to keep most/all of his promises in his July 26, 2010 SONA,†SWS reported on Thursday.
The same September survey found that his trust rating was at +60 per cent and he was evenly rated in all areas of the Philippines, across socio-economic classes and genders. This trust aspect of the survey was released by SWS earlier last Monday.
It noted that in comparison, only 19 per cent expected his predecessor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, to keep most/all of her promises in her first SONA on July 23, 2001.
SWS said this was reflected by a September 2001 survey.
Also, only 44 per cent was aware of Arroyo’s SONA in 2001. SWS also said that only 25 per cent in 2001 and 19 per cent in 2007 said Arroyo was serving the poor.
According to SWS, Aquino’s first SONA was watched live on television by 56 per cent, 15 per cent heard about it on TV, 9 per cent heard about it from other people, 8 per cent listened to it live on radio, 5 per cent heard about it on radio, 3 per cent read about it on the newspapers, and a few (0.1 per cent) learned about it on the internet.
Two questions were posed to respondents in Filipino language. One was: “In your opinion, how many of the promises of Pres. Noynoy Aquino can be fulfilled?†The other was: “Do you think Pres. Noynoy Aquino is serving the interests of the RICH, the MIDDLE CLASS, or the POOR?†(PNA)
