Tacloban City (31 August 2005) -- The Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in region 8 will spearhead series of activities relative to the celebration of the National Crime Prevention Week in Region 8, which will be on September 1-7, 2005 pursuant to the mandate of Presidential Proclamation No. 461dated August 31, 1994 issued by then President Fidel V. A series of activities have been prepared and will be implemented to highlight the celebration and give importance to the event.

This year's celebration carries the theme "Barangay at Mamayan Magkaisa: Hadlangan ang Krimen" with the slogan "Barangay Linisin, Krimen Alisin".

To formally open the event, a motorcade will be conducted around the city of Tacloban on the first day of the celebration. This will be participated in by RPOC member agencies, the Tacloban City government, Leyte Provincial government and the Liga ng Mga Barangay. To add color to the opening day, streamers will be hanged on one side of the vehicles and there will be 12 balloons to be released after the opening ceremony.

On September 2, a Crime Prevention Seminar which will be coordinated by the Bureau of Jail Management, will be held at the Tacloban City Jail with inmates as participants. Lecturers will come from the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), and the Parole and Probation Office.

This will be followed by a press conference at the Express It At The Park on September 3 with guests coming from the different participating agencies of the RPOC.

Crime/Drug Prevention Symposium will be conducted on the 5th day with students from St. Paul's Business School of Tacloban as participants. During this symposium, Police Deputy Director General Ricardo de Leon will be the guest speaker. After the symposium, an "Ugnayan sa Barangay" to be held in Brgy. John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
