Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago will formalize on Friday her re-election bid in 2010, a statement from her office said on Wednesday.
Santiago will file her certificate of candidacy (CoC) at the Commission on Elections under her own party, the People’s Reform Party.
Apart from her own party, Santiago was also drafted as guest candidate by five other political groups; the administration’s Lakas-Kampi Christian Muslim Democrats, Senator Manny Villar’s Nacionalista Party, former President Joseph Estrada’s Puwersa ng Masa, the Nationalist People’s Coalition and the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino.
“She will be the only senatorial candidate who will run as a common candidate of five parties,†said the statement, adding the senator would be in a “highly unusual, if not historic, role†when she files her CoC.
