The Supreme Court (SC) has stopped the screening and showing of the controversial film "Innocence of Muslims."
In Tuesday's en banc session, the SC justices decided to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) to the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) against the said movie.
The SC ordered MTRCB Chairperson Grace Poe-Llamanzares to indefinitely stop the movie to be shown in televisions and movie houses.
It also directed the MTRCB to file the necessary comment.
Likewise, the SC clarified that the Muslim petitioners who questioned the showing of the said movie should "implead" as respondents to the case the websites Google and Youtube.
This was because the petition said the movie trailer was also shown in the said websites, but failed to include them as respondents.
It can be recalled that Muslim groups on Monday rallied and filed a petition for certiorari with plea for a mandatory injunction against the said movie which they claimed as an upfront violation of their Islamic faith and biography of their prophet Muhammed.
The Muslims held the rally with a symbolic payment of 80 kilos of one-peso coins for docket fees.
They stressed that the coins were donations from Muslims in different areas in the Philippines.
In the petition led by Agakhan "Benladin" Sharief, Datu Drieza Lininding, Datu Haj Ansari Alonto and Datu Nasser Dimapinto, they argued that the movie should not be shown for it is offensive to their religion. - PNA
