Press Release: ‘Project Governance Outreach in Monitored Areas (GOMA)’
‘Project Goma’ was born out of the aspiration of Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez of Leyte 4th District and her better half, Ormoc City Mayor Richard l. Gomez, to bring government services to the most vulnerable and far-flung communities.
It is a localized approach of the city’s fight against insurgency and lawlessness through a whole-of-nation approach.
This program is through the Peace and Order Council.
The ‘Project Goma’ Serbisyo Caravan kicked off last Saturday, March 13 in Brgy. Liberty; March 16 in Brgy. Cabintan; and yesterday, March 17 in Brgy. Gaas.
The caravan serves to provide services to disadvantaged/vulnerable communities and remote areas, as well as to listen to and discuss their concerns with concerned agencies during the open forum.
During the caravan, food packs and health kits were distributed by the LGU-Ormoc City to the project’s recipients. The City Agriculture Office (CAO) distributed free vegetable seeds while the Bureau of Fire Protection gave free blood pressure check-up.
There were members of the 802nd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army and CAFGU who gave free haircuts to male residents, while the Philippine National Police (PNP) Ormoc City distributed health kits to the adults and ice drops to children.
The City Social Welfare Department (CSWD) fed the children, gave free manicure, free pedicure, free massage, and free haircut to the female residents.
In addition, the DepEd Ormoc City Division (Alternative Learning System) ALS teachers accepted new ALS enrollees while the Ormoc Technical Education and Skills Development Center (regulated by TESDA) personnel accepted new enrollees/scholars encouraging them to take up TESDA courses to be equipped with employable skills that could take them out of the cycle of poverty.
The residents furthermore took the opportunity to raise their queries/issues to the LGU Civil Registry Department, and to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), which representatives responded efficiently.
Moreover, representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) gave short speeches to raise awareness about current issues on putting up micro businesses and how March is fire prevention month.
And since ‘Project Goma’ is an anti-insurgency program, the 93IB and PNP representatives had their information drive against insurgency.
The program was well facilitated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) CLGOO.
The ‘Project Goma’ Serbisyo Caravan will be in Brgy. Lake Danao on Friday, March 19, and in Brgy. Quezon Jr. on Saturday, March 20.
