PIA Davao City – The Department of Agriculture (DA XI) is promoting the consumption of pork meat products in Region XI amidst reported cases of African swine fever all over the said region. This is in support of Executive Order 105 establishing the National Task Force for Animal-Borne Diseases wherein the government is tasked to control the spread of ASF and other potential diseases that may affect the livestock in the country.
Regional Director Doctor Rolando Marquez of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS XI) stresses the importance of how proper inspection and assessment of meat products is necessary for controlling the spread of ASF in the region. “Sa ating mga pag iinspeksyon sa mga palengke, lagi po nating tinitingnan at sinusuri na yung mga ibinebenta sa ating mga pamilihan ay galling sa mga lehitimong katayan,” Marquez said.
In light of this, 6 pigs were slaughtered and roasted for the Lechon parade and free taste that was organized by the Bankerohan meat vendors association in cooperation with the Local Government of Davao, Barangay 5-A, NMIS XI and the DA XI. (PIA XI/K Caro)
