MALACANANG defended Saturday President Benigno Aquino III's move to always appeal for the life of a convicted Filipino drug courier in other countries.
In an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said that whenever the Chief Executive makes an appeal, he was just seeking for the commutation of the death sentence.
"We are not saying to overturn the verdict, we're not saying that they were not guilty because we respect their system, the judicial process of the other countries," she said.
"What we're asking is for their life to be spared and for them to serve the rest of the life on their sentence because here, we don't have death penalty," Valte explained.
