Canvassing of votes by both Chambers of Congress -- the Senate and the House of Representatives -- for president and vice president was delayed Monday due to technical questions on the automated system and allegations of electronic fraud.

Congress, which acts as the National Board of Canvasser (NBOC), resumed session at 2:38 p.m. Monday, but spent hours deliberating on the authenticity of the electronically transmitted certificates of canvass (CoCs).

Congress will canvass a total of 278 CoCs, 104 of which were electronically transmitted.

At 8:30 p.m., the NBOC started opening ballot boxes in the province of La Union, Hong Kong and Singapore countries, and Ilocos Norte.

The following are the results as of 10 p.m. Monday:

PRESIDENT:

Acosta – 1,805; Aquino – 205,967; Delos Reyes - 703; Estrada – 234,474; Gordon – 12,235; Madrigal - 1,227; Perlas – 895; Teodoro – 90,677; Villanueva – 29,804; Villar – 217,450.

VICE PRESIDENT:

Binay – 307,037; Chipeco – 761; Fernando – 23,399; Legarda - 195,378; Manzano – 9,113; Roxas – 232,986; Sonza – 1,442; Yasay - 17,575.

The NBOC has deferred the canvassing of votes for Baguio City, Ilocos Sur, Siquijor provinces due to some technicality. (PNA)
