Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Ricardo David said Wednesday the military is willing to release ranking Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-New People's Army (CPP-NPA-NDF) leader Allan Jazmines if such is the wish of the government's negotiating panel.
David said after a command conference with President Benigno S. Aquino III that the AFP is "interested in winning the peace†and would be most happy if the armed conflict between it and the NPA would be resolved through the peace talks.
Jazmines, a member of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ central committee, was arrested by joint police and military teams from his safe house in Baliuag, Bulacan on Monday night.
The military said Jazmines was arrested for murder and rebellion based on arrest warrants issued by courts in Calauag, Quezon province and Lucena City.
Jazmines, who allegedly uses the aliases “Dex,†“Tomas,†and “Arthur,†is a member of the CPP's executive committee and political bureau, the military said. (PNA)
