Commitment, credentials and consistency.
These are the three “Cs†that Councilor Oscar Glovasa is relying on to propel his bid for a House seat in the first congressional district.
Glovasa, the official candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition and Team Dan Lim, said these three give him a head start over his rivals in the May 10 polls.
He said his commitment has been proven by his advocacy of the benefits of senior citizens in Tagbilaran City under the leadership of Mayor Dan Lim.
The mayor has acknowledged Glovasa’s role in the implementation of senior citizens’ benefits such as the cash gift and cake during birthdays, free movies, free medicines and other health services.
As chairman of the committee on appropriations, Glovasa has repeatedly stood up to defend the budget which has been opposed by the minority bloc who do not want the programs to be implemented for fear that it is good politics for the Lim administration.
This same commitment prompted Glovasa’s peers in the majority bloc to draft him for congressman out of their desire to share the program to constituents in all 14 towns of the first district.
Aside from the program for senior citizens, Glovasa said he will use his pork barrel funds for other service programs implemented in the city such as the free school uniforms and school supplies for public school pupils and students.
Glovasa is also the most prepared candidate as far as his credentials are concerned. As topnotcher in the 1969 bar exams, Glovasa made history when he became the first graduate of a non-Manila law school to accomplish the feat.
Instead of enriching himself in any of the lucrative offers in Metro Manila, however, Glovasa chose to serve as provincial attorney in Bohol .
He is the only lawyer among the candidates in the first district.
Glovasa has also been consistent in his advocacies for good government.
“I led the fight for the right of the province to own the public utilities which were later sold and privatized,†he recalled. Glovasa noted that he has never left Tagbilaran and the first district, in mild reference to a rival whose candidacy in the third district in the last election was protested.
The protest was only dismissed when the candidate insisted that he is a bona fide voter of the third district.
Asked to reveal what was the fourth C, Glovasa said that is “a givenâ€.
“We all know Him because we worship Him, Jesus Christ,†he added. - the bohol standard
