Ladies and gentlemen, good morning.

I am pleased to announce the busting of yet another elaborate scheme to defraud people through identity theft with the use of telecommunication.

This latest development highlights the need to further raise awareness among our people of such nefarious activities and to initiate active countermeasure to protect themselves from these criminal schemes.

Presented before you are:

1. DENNIS JOSE PESIMO BORBON, 24, temporary residing at Bernales Tres, Brgy Baritan, Malabon City with provincial address at Nr 410A Marcellano St., Zone 5, Lagonoy, Camarines Sur, online seller and online blogger, and former Congressional Staff of 1-Edukasyon Partylist; and

2. EDGAR PAULO JAMES CRUZ BULARAN, 30, residing at the same house/place, a native of Cabanatuan City and an assistant of Borbon.

The suspects were arrested in a series of follow-up and entrapment operations that stemmed from an initial phone call to Cavite Governor Jolo Revilla from a person who identified himself as Camarines Sur Congressman Arnie Fuentebella.

Acting on the information provided by Vice Gov Revilla, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group launched simultaneous operations that led to the arrest of the suspects in Malabon City after withdrawing P15,000.00 from an ATM.

Seized from the suspects were various electronic and access devices, debit cards, remittance cards, and several unregistered SIM cards believed to be used in their activities.

Borbon and Bularan are facing criminal charges for violation of Sec (b) (3) RA 10175 (Identity Theft) and Art 315, RPC (Estafa) in relation to Sec 6 RA10175.
