The underprivileged workers, including the Overseas Filipino Workers, called "mga bagong bayani" will soon be represented in the halls of Congress of the Philippines .
The Organizations for National Economic Benefits for Overseas Workers, Helpers and Other Laborers or One-Bohol has petitioned the Commission on Elections for its accreditation as a sectoral party-list in the coming 2010 elections, said founding leader Rodolfo Kid Cañeda.
In its petition received by the Comelec Manila dated July 17, 2009, the officers of
One-Bohol party-list prayed that it be registered, "representing the disadvantaged sector of labor to participate under the party-list system in the 2010 elections and in the succeeding elections and be accorded rights and privileges."
The Comelec received such petition under SPP Case No. 09-209 (B). It is represented by Cañeda, Atty. Jordan M. Pizarras as executive vice-president and Atty. Joseph Entero as vice-president for the national capital region.
ONE-Bohol, Caneda said, is a sectoral organization aimed at fostering and developing the potentials of the working sector and the entire nation by binding themselves in an alliance. It also tries to conserve, promote and enhance the workers economic, political, social, moral, spiritual, and general well-being of the laborer and the Filipino people independent from any government or quasi-government agency, body or program.
When it is registered under RA 7941 or the party-list law, One-Bohol aims to actively participate in the coming 2010 elections, the petitioners said.
To support its accreditation with the Comelec, the petitioners attached the Resolution No. 004-09 approved by the National executive Committee of the One-Bohol.
