If elections were held today, Boholanos would have delivered an overwhelming edge to presidential aspirant Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
The sentiment of voters in the province became evident in a random telephone survey of radio listeners over top-rated public affairs program "Radyo Merkado" of station dyRD-AM.
The two-hour poll generated a total of 84 responses from radio listeners, half of whom (42 respondents) picked Aquino (Liberal Party) as their choice to become the next president among 10 presidential aspirants.
Aquino was followed by former defense chief Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro (Lakas-Kampi CMD) who was a far second receiving 19 votes or 23% of the survey respondents.
Bohol is an administration bailiwick, which partly explains Teodoro's edge over Senator Manuel Villar and former president Joseph Estrada who consistently placed second and third in nationwide independent surveys.
Villar (Nacionalista Party) was chosen by 12% of the survey respondents (10 votes) while Estrada (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) captured an 11% preference among survey participants (8 votes).
Senator Richard Gordon and Nicanor Perlas scored 2 votes each, or a 2% share of voters' preference. Evangelist Eddie Villanueva received 1 vote in the radio survey.
The most common reason given by respondents in explaining their choice of a presidential candidate is clean public record and not being tainted with issues of corruption.
Survey respondents who chose the top three presidential candidates also cited good performance as public officials, competence and academic qualifications as their basis for choosing their preferred candidate.
