The political tsunami that is called "Nonoy" has hit
Bohol shores.
Tomorrow, multi sectors of Boholanos will launch the MOVE (Movement of Volunteers to Elect) NONOY - their local version of the many voluntary organizations now spouting around the country to help elect Sen. Benigno Simeon "Nonoy" Aquino III as the next Philippine president.
The date also coincides with the declaration of martial law 37 years ago by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos which effectively snuffed out democracy in the country, made the late Sen. Ninoy Aquino (Noynoy's father) as its first detainee and was only finally stamped out with the assumption of Cory Aquino (Noynoy's mother) as president following the EDSA Revolution.
The movement launching will be held at the JJ's Seafood Village, K of C Drive this city at 2:30 p.m. It will be preceded by a motorcade at 1:30 pm starting from Plaza Rizal and winding along the city's main thoroughfares.
Two siblings of Sen. Aquino - Ballsy Aquino-Cruz and Pinky Aquino-Abellana - will grace the affair and address the assembly.
Their presence serves as an inspiration to the movement members even as it also highlights the Aquinos fondness of and gratefulness to the province.
It maybe recalled that Bohol was among the first provinces where a signature campaign was initiated to convince Sen. Aquino to run for the 2010 presidential elections.
A recent random survey conducted by the top-rated Radyo Merkado program of the station DYRD-AM found 78% of the respondents favoring Sen. Aquino as their president bet.
During the program MOVE NOYNOY will also start the Piso-Piso Para Kang Noynoy fund-raising campaign aside from presenting the strategies to be adopted to bring the movement to all the barangays, and spread it among all the sectors, in the province.
The group was specifically buoyed with the latest SWS survey in Luzon where the youthful senator got the nod of 50% of those polled as their presidential choice with Sen. Manny Villar a far second with 14% and former Pres. Erap Estrada at third with 13%.
The volunteers-driven movement strongly believes that a Noynoy Aquino presidentcy will bring about good governance, transparency and accountability, political will to combat graft and corruption, social justice and sound economic development to the country. - the bohol chronicle
