Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has suffered another hypertension attack after talking about Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile in a TV interview Wednesday.

Quoting the senatorâ€™s ophthalmologist Dr. Rodolfo Chuanico, Santiagoâ€™s staff confirmed Santiago suffered hypertension, which led to blood clots around her pupil.
They claimed Santiagoâ€™s blood pressure shot up to 190/115 after discussing in a TV interview Enrileâ€™s â€œunconstitutional and unethicalâ€ Christmas gifts, worth P2-million in public funds, to every senator.

â€œAfter the TV show, Santiago stayed for photos with the TV staff, her right eye noticeably red, and with red blood clots around the pupil,â€ the statement added.

After missing the first four days of the impeachment trial due to hypertension, Santiago saw to it that she arrived â€¦
â€œApparently, Santiago developed hypertensionâ€¦ At this writing the nurse is contacting Dr. Esperanza Cabral, a cardiologist, who is Santiagoâ€™s personal physician,â€ it added.

During the interview, Santiago became agitated as she accused Enrile of personally attacking her about her frequent illness, which she said is â€œnot allowed in decent society.â€

During the impeachment trial last year, Santiago skipped several sessions due to hypothyroidism and hypertension.

She has been advised to rest her eye and continue with her hypertensive medication, the staff said.

one of enrileâ€™s attack dogs is not a lawyer, but is pretending to be one, and that is why that senator keeps on calling on santiago to shut up; just because they are senators, they think of their immediate knowledge of the entire universe, of the legal system; he does not even have a clue about the principle of exhaustion of administrative remedies; he was involved in a court case, and he turned tail and became a fugitive from justice, which is a criminal behavior; that is what you get when a layman filled with hubris pretends to be a lawyer

the most notorious brawling parliament: taiwan, with 5 brawls from 2004-2007 alone. this excludes brawls before and after this 3-year period.

The Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is probably the most notable example of legislative violence today. In the history of the Legislative Yuan, numerous violent acts have occurred during parliamentary sessions. It is popularly referred locally as "Legislative Brawling". In 1995, the Legislative Yuan was presented with the Ig Nobel Prize Peace Award, for "demonstrating that politicians gain more by punching, kicking and gouging each other than by waging war against other nations."
