
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has suffered another hypertension attack after talking about Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile in a TV interview Wednesday.

Quoting the senator’s ophthalmologist Dr. Rodolfo Chuanico, Santiago’s staff confirmed Santiago suffered hypertension, which led to blood clots around her pupil.
They claimed Santiago’s blood pressure shot up to 190/115 after discussing in a TV interview Enrile’s “unconstitutional and unethical†Christmas gifts, worth P2-million in public funds, to every senator.
“After the TV show, Santiago stayed for photos with the TV staff, her right eye noticeably red, and with red blood clots around the pupil,†the statement added.

“Apparently, Santiago developed hypertension… At this writing the nurse is contacting Dr. Esperanza Cabral, a cardiologist, who is Santiago’s personal physician,†it added.
During the interview, Santiago became agitated as she accused Enrile of personally attacking her about her frequent illness, which she said is “not allowed in decent society.â€
During the impeachment trial last year, Santiago skipped several sessions due to hypothyroidism and hypertension.
She has been advised to rest her eye and continue with her hypertensive medication, the staff said.
