Margarito Teves as Philippine Vice-President in 2010?
« on: March 21, 2009, 11:30:48 PM »
The political season heats up with the onset of summer as the country’s treasurers auditors and assessors ended their 76th annual convention with a new contribution to the list of possible candidates: Finance Secretary Margarito Teves.

Teves’ name cropped up as a possible vice presidential candidate during the convention, held March 16-19 at the Manila Hotel and attended by more than 4,000 members nationwide.

During the convention, the president of the Philippine Association of Municipal Assessors, Mario Magcalas, endorsed Teves as the ideal running mate of Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, who last week announced his intention top run for president in elections scheduled for May 2010.

“This is a formidable and explosive duo,” said Magcalas, referring to the tandem as “T ’n T,” or Teodoro and Teves.

Magcalas, in a press statement, said the team-up favors the country’s grain of political tradition because Teves represents the Mindanao and Visayas islands and Teodoro, Luzon.

He said that with the country hobbled by two serious problems — national security and the economy — Teodoro and Teves would make an ideal tandem for the country. - PDI
