What are you going to do to stop this vicious cycle of corruption that is eating into the Philippines’ moral, political and economic fiber? - Cebu Presidential Forum, compiled by Sun Star
AQUINO
“I agree with former president Estrada, there should be certainty of punishment. Ngunit hindi lang puro parusa ang gagawin but also give the right compensation to people who have been working so hard in the government; a carrot-and-stick strategy.â€
ESTRADA
“Graft and corruption? I’ve been there… as your president for two and half years. You must appoint men of integrity, especially in sensitive positions. When my wife and son were charged with graft and corruption, I was the one who called the chairman of the (Senate) Blue Ribbon (Committee) to investigate them immediately but they were proven innocent and every single cent was accounted for…at the same time there must be certainty of punishment for those who commit graft and corruption.â€
GORDON
“There will be no tolerance of corruption cases. I will not pardon anybody who is convicted of corruption. I will also make sure that we have courtesy, honesty and efficiency (in government).â€
TEODORO
“Number one, non-tolerance of graft and corruption. Hindi ka mangunguna sa paggawa ng katiwalian sa gobyerno. Second, you should have a balance. You should give incentives for good behavior among public servants. Thirdly, and this is a very important thing, transparency in procurement and other transactions, where we need an activist public to participate and watch.â€
VILLANUEVA
He plans to “overhaul the appointed people†in the Commission on Audit, Office of the Ombudsman and Department of Justice. He also vowed to establish a task force composed of certified public accountants and lawyers that will monitor public transactions.
VILLAR
“We have to have a strategy. It’s easy to say that we can stop corruption, but we must have the strategy and the capability to do it. We should also strengthen the judiciary.â€
