Palace extols Pinoys for economic resiliency
MANILA (30 August 2005) -- Malacañang has extolled the Filipino people for their resiliency, whether tending to farm or stall in the Philippines or earning for the family abroad, as this reflects the resiliency of the country's economy.
The Palace's remark was relayed by Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye after the economy posted a modest growth in the second quarter of the year despite surging oil prices and the adverse effects of El Niño on farm output.
Bunye, who is also the Presidential Spokesman, said the Philippines and the Filipino people cannot be put down by political bickering and turmoil.
He cited the nation with bolstered democracy by its success in free enterprise and biting the bullet when crisis looms, and described Filipinos as heroic people who can prevail against all odds by solidarity and ability to make the best out of any situation.
Bunye added that this country will move forward under a regime of good government, fiscal responsibility, grassroots enterprise, and the rule of law. (PIA-MMIO)
