Sparks fly and sober calls for honesty rocked opposite corners of one political party here, sowing fears that Lakas may be in on a self destruct mode now that the infighting pits staunch unification advocates against each other in Bohol.
Then political buddies slowly drift into possibly the bitterest of foes here as new Lakas CMD Kampi Provincial Chairman Congressman Edgar Chatto blamed former allies including then party chairman and Governor Erico Aumentado for committing acts inimical to the party leading to their eventual losing of party trust.
Not to be out-sidled from the party he fortified, Aumentado retaliated with loaded bombs against a cabal that has been drafting an intricate plan to give him the party boot.
“Be Honest,†urged present party chairman Chatto to party members now rumored to be pushed for party beheading after allegedly masterminding a plan that would draw the fight from Lakas.
Not to be left in the receiving end of accusations, Gov. Aumentado lobed the slogan popularized by a christian brotherhood group while vehemently denying the Chatto camp accusations of him as the grand designer of all things that caused the party to rock.
Aumentado, who is a member of the same christian group, in turn aimed his guns on Chatto whom he accused of masterminding the grand plan to oust Aumentado and his rebel allies from the party.
“Somebody in Malacanang discovered the plan and found that it emanated from Bohol,†the governor told the media at the Mansion Friday.
He was short of saying it was Chatto who was at the end when he unrolled the line of intrigues reaching the Lakas national directorate.
Aumentado hinted that the plan was to boot him and behead several Lakas mayors so the new group could wrest the party from its leaders in Bohol.
As one who strengthened Lakas here, the governor said he would not allow himself to be booted from the house he help build.
Lakas could have probably bought the lies spun against Aumentado since the governor who is in his last term has to appeal to finally get his official Lakas Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA).
Cong. Chatto, during a meeting which later turned out to be a press conference said “it was very clear to all of us. The events, the people, the information coming in.â€
Chatto added, “there is only one purpose, to serve one’s interest,†taking a slight at Aumentado for the spread rumors that the governor was to eventually abandon Lakas for the Nacionalista Party.
“The interest to serve was the side of Lakas, but most of all, for the Nacionalista [Party], Chatto blared during the presscon at the Jj’s Seafoods Monday.
Chatto’s camp has lately cited Aumentado, who was deputy speaker to Nacionalista’s presidential bet Manny Villar and his association with the man as indication of a leaning to finally abandon Lakas in the campaign’s homestretch.
But Aumentado, who denied the accusations said he also uncovered a Chatto deal to hand in the Lakas campaign machinery to the Libertal Party through Senator Francis Pangilinan, whom Chatto helped win big during last elections.
Asked if there is still a chance for the party to seal its cracks, Aumentado said it would all depend on the new Lakas chairman, meaning Chatto.
