Montano Dines and in Hopes to Adopt and Fight for Bohol Expatâ€™s Organization Members

Last Friday night at the newly opened up India Curry Garden restaurant in Tagbilaran City, actor/director and singer Cesar Montano along with his staff held a planned get together and introduction of members in a new formed group of â€œBohol Expatsâ€ who have been forming and getting together for meeting for the past 6 months.

Cesar told the organizations representative that he is interested in the organization and feels that foreigners should have made an organization some time ago. Cesar who is a well known as an actor director and singer said during the meeting of the expats members that he was enjoying and listening to the concerns put out by the resident and domesticated foreigners who have chosen Bohol as a home.

Cesar said he wants to assist and help the organization in getting registered and becoming a chartered and that his platform will be on eco tourism and making sure that foreign visitor will have the same rights here as Philippine persons living here and that foreigners more protected and safer than they are being treated at present.
The staff members of Cesar also took turns speaking with the group of foreigners on the childrenâ€™s organization that Cesar has put together in Baclayon and another staff member of his talked about when foreigners get married not only do they marry the woman but they marry her place family and culture as a whole.

Cesar told the groupâ€™s organizer that the next meeting together with him will be held in a more private place behind closed doors. According to some of the foreigners the meeting was sort of hard to have been able to discuss and resolve issues because the foreigners know Cesar is a well loved and adored talent here in his local place of Bohol as well as internationally. Everyone who had noticed the present host of the ever popular ABS/CBNâ€™s Singing Bee and gubernatorial candidate for Bohol inside the new restaurant having a discussion amongst the â€œBohol Expatsâ€ many on the outside of the restaurant were taking advantages to meet and have a picture with Cesar it was becoming so many that it was hard for the star to even eat a full meal according to Roger Long who has lived here in Bohol from the USA for three years.

Cesar had also given a live interview over radio station DYTR along with the Expats organizer who is this writer. Cesar was very popular amongst the foreigners as he had come across as bright and caring as the first political candidate in the history of Bohol to take an interest in a group or really good foreigners who are here to enjoy Bohol and help others here. USAâ€™s Roger Long said in a text message today â€œLast nightâ€™s meeting I enjoyed it very muchâ€¦getting together, meeting Cesar, and making new friends. Sorry some of our expat friends were negative and didnâ€™t appreciate importanceâ€¦that Cesar is an international celebrity, probably our next governor, very influential. I hope Cesar and I meet again as friends â€¦I like him and respect him.â€

Hi girlnextdoor,

It seems Cesar is giving the other gubernatorial aspirants the creeps as he ups the ante on this much-coveted post this early in the day.

It seems to me that the actor is getting more physically visible in Bohol than his showbiz career in Manila would require. In politics, body language is sometimes more reliable than the spoken word. Not to mention that Cesar minces no words about his political intentions.

As I said in another post, I am more than willing to give him a try, I'll definitely give him my vote. I think he is aware of his perceived deficits in the political arena, so he worked hard on a college degree which he has just completed at the Lyceum. Aside from his talents in acting and music, I think this guy is not just your average actor whose main assets are from the face down.

anyone outside the list of trapos who have signified to run the affairs of the boholanos is definitely worth a try.

Actually, I would give Cesar part of the credit for the free media exposure Bohol gets not only by virture of himself but also from his colleagues in the industry who have trooped to Bohol and made our island more famous.

If we could get more films, commercials, product launchings, talent searches and domestic and international conferences hosted in Bohol--economic activities that are really nature-friendly--I think Bohol could progress without the attendant ills of industrialization. Cesar can be candid to declare this as his economic platform, and with his household name value, I think the governor's seat is not really farfetched.

at this time, i'm not really sure as to who i will support in the next political exercise. i'm certain though that i will definitely not vote for any of the trapos who have held political positions in the past who have signified their interest to run for bohol governor in the coming elections.

i would, however, like to see someone elected into office whose program of government can support the vision of getting bohol to become a top-rated eco-cultural tourism destination in the country and the breadbasket of the region.

so far, we have made some progress in terms of eco tourism and agriculture development but there is a need to achieve more and sustain whatever achievements have been attained thus far. there is a perceptible lack of development, however, in the culture and arts department. sure, we have the loboc children's choir but that it is not all there is in arts an culture development. bohol is rich in cultural heritage as well as talents and skills and i believe a cultural renaissance movement would be a plus factor in trying to achieve this goal. most importantly, we need a venue to store cultural artifacts and display visual artistic works that will showcase the boholano heritage and his distinct identity.

looking at the list of gubernatoriables and considering the vision that needs to be fulfilled, it seems that there is only one name that fits the bill: the name of cesar montano.

I can only echo what you say, Bay. We have only belatedly realized the great cultural and artistic treasure we're sitting on, and it has to take the likes of Bea Zobel to get the renaissance movement a nudge forward. With NHI's Ambeth Ocampo gently riding on the current, it is time we put someone within our own shores who will sustain the momentum of revival at least for a fixed term.

I used to think Cesar was just a run-of the-mill actor. But his extensive and dedicated involvement in such non-commercial flicks as Panaghoy sa Suba and Jose Rizal changed my view of him. I think he has artistic sensibility and historical appreciation that his peers in showbiz can only aspire to.

a few days ago, i came across a coffee table book published by bea zobel that focused on vernacular houses in loay and loboc areas. the book shows artistic details of boholano houses that makes good reference material for arts and culture enthusiasts including those that are particularly interested with vernacular architecture. scanning the pages of the book does make one feel proud to be part of people with a distinct identity and makes one feel mighty proud to be a boholano. the book is called "sukaran". its price of PHP 1,200 may be a bit on the high side but it's a very good book that every proud boholano should have.

in my opinion, the next thing that people should work on toward improving cultural identity is to get all local historians together and come up with a historical account of bohol starting from the srivijayan era until contemporary times, and publish it as an official documentation of the boholano people.

next in line would be a museum. bohol has lots of historical artifacts but there is hardly any place to keep these things. the only museum we had - a display of Carlos P. Garcia memorabilia that was kept in his own house - has been closed because the property has been recalled by CPG's heirs. so for now, bohol does snot have a museum. i was quite disgusted to learn that a good number of relics that include coffins and skeletal remains of ancient boholanos that were excavated from caves in anda-mabini area had to be taken to butuan by the national historical institute (NHI) for safekeeping. indeed, bohol needs a museum.

and speaking of a place to keep heritage items such a museum, we also need a sort of art gallery that will display artistic works done by boholano artists starting from pre-hispanic period up to contemporary times. bohol is rich in terms of artistic pool and there is indeed a need to showcase what has been done by local artisans; from weavers to painters to potters to painters, sculptors.

hopefully these potential projects can be initiated and facilitated by a provincial leadership under someone (in the likes of cesar montano) who sees value in advancing arts and culture development not only to recapture the pride in being a boholano but also as a tool to achieve economic development.

I think Cesar would be the likeliest candidate to pay attention to these neglected concerns. Even when he is still not in power, he has already shown great artistic predeliction. Dolly Carvajal in her August 17 PDI column updates us on one of Cesar's latest activities:

Buboy is in the process of selecting cast members for a Visayan historical movie that he will direct. He is also spearheading a coral reef restoration program in Bohol. Buboy just canâ€™t stop doing things for the love of his ka-probinsiya.

So far I have been talking with many people who will be able to vote this coming election. I have been getting some really good feed backs on what I have heard.

Actually this foreigner group was mentioned with Boboy's previous Chief of Staff Mam Alturas several months back but nothing was materialized until recently when I was given Cesar's number by one of my actor/director friends Richard Arellano and I was able to get in touch with him after a year of no communication.

Upon texting him my message and in between taping his Singing Bee he replied to my text very excited and interested to be a part of the group.

He had been told somewhat about the groups beginning but honestly I invited him to be a helper in the organization because he is influential about his love of Bohol. He tapes his shows at three per day and when he is done he runs back home to be in Bohol not to be in some other far away place.

Many that i have talked with say they are planning to vote for Montano but the truth will be seen in the actual vote counting after the election is done.

Until now Jess Tirol is still writing the script of the movie which was mentioned earlier in this thread. This was something Montano and I had talked about during our get together last Friday at the new India Curry Restaurant.

I enjoy this guy's output of total positive energy and his down to earth calm hospitality and he takes the time to pose chat and listen to people who come up to him.

He is not a snob and not afraid to be with the public, he is a people person for the people.

Let's work on keeping things positive no one is perfect now are they?

Many people who started running in the past election also have bailed out and have returned to run again and ended up winning.
