Legazpi City – Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NFSL) recently (July 4, 2012) rendered military honors to Queen Sofia of Spain during her official visit to Albay. She was accorded with Side Boys Honors upon arrivals and departure at Legazpi City Airport and as Military Host, Commodore Abraham F Celzo AFP, Commander of NAVFORSOL had the honor to receive and escort Queen Sofia.
Her Majesty arrived at the Legazpi Airport at 8:45 a.m. onboard the Presidential plane (Fokker F28) from Manila amid the warm and festive welcome of Albayanos dancers and children.
The official visit marked only the second time that a foreign dignitary visited the province since Pope John Paul II in 1981. During her stay, Her Majesty visited Spanish government funded projects through AECID particularly the Evacuation Center at Camalig, Albay, Jose Belmonte Duran Memorial Hospital at Ligao and Climate Change Academy in Bicol University.
NAVFORSOL Public Affairs Team was designated as Media Affairs Team who worked hand in hand with Media Accreditation and Relations Office (MARO) from Malacañan to ensure smooth coordination and support for the members of the media who covered the event. “We’re glad that even before we came in, the Media Affairs Team has already set-up preparations and accreditation of media. Naging mas madali ang naging trabaho natin at pakikipag-usap sa mga media. Maraming salamat (NAVFORSOL)†said Charry Mantala of MARO. Apart from providing military honors and handling of media affairs, NAVFORSOL also augmented security during the visit.
