How the Filipinos Voted in the Past

Linkback: https://tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com/index.php?topic=55891.0
John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

sa ako lang banabana... at the risk of being called batbater by his excellency hubag...

sa una man god, mga ngilngig tag kapilian, and we felt let down.  in fact, the most brilliant one, the one who held the most promise, gave us martial law.

our problem is we lack choices.  "new" democracy came our way after edsa 1, na-free-for-all; tungod sa kadaghan nauso na ang name recall.  dugangan pa nga modagsa ug political rallies ang mga tawo kun naay artista o singer nga sikat.  nakahunahuna tingali ni silang mga entertainers nga uy, bayran na man lang gyod ta ug gamiton aning mga politicians, kita na lang kahay manglansar kay mas sayon man ta hinumdoman.  inspired pa gyod sila ni ronald reagan.

there was a rare exception before nga nahimong senador ug diplomat, si rogelio de la rosa nga brother-in-law ni diosdado macapagal (by his first wife).  but he was of a different breed.  unya nasundan siya ni joseph estrada after decades.  the rest is history.  entertainers in politics are now a dime a dozen.

too bad it is enshrined in our constitution thus:

FOR SENATOR:  Article VI Section 3. No person shall be a Senator unless he is a natural-born citizen of the Philippines and, on the day of the election, is at least thirty-five years of age, able to read and write, a registered voter, and a resident of the Philippines for not less than two years immediately preceding the day of the election.

FOR CONGRESSMAN:  Section 6. No person shall be a Member of the House of Representatives unless he is a natural-born citizen of the Philippines and, on the day of the election, is at least twenty-five years of age, able to read and write, and, except the party-list representatives, a registered voter in the district in which he shall be elected, and a resident thereof for a period of not less than one year immediately preceding the day of the election.

FOR PRESIDENT:  ARTICLE VII. Section 2. No person may be elected President unless he is a natural-born citizen of the Philippines, a registered voter, able to read and write, at least forty years of age on the day of the election, and a resident of the Philippines for at least ten years immediately preceding such election.

makita nga very basic ang qualification.  wa man ganiy minimum educational requirement.  basta dili lang no-read, no-write, okay na.  these are the people who will make laws and enforce those laws.  ang mo-interpret, the judicial branch, maoy mas klaro ang educational qualification kay wa man tingali tay huwes nga kutob ra sa major in anthropology.

ang nakaparat kay these are also the very same people (including local elective officials) who will appoint clerks whose educational qualification requirement is a college degree.  that's how strange our world is.

mao nga wa man tingali tay entertainer nga no-read, no-write, so now we have these senators and congressmen from the entertainment world.  apil pa ang sports world kay di baya no-read, no-write si pacquiao, iyang asawa ug iyang igsoon.

truth to tell, we are fools for allowing this trend to happen as we were fools for allowing martial law.  we continue to be fools for allowing the marcos dynasty and all these other current dynasties.  and because we are fools, we can only deserve what we've got.

Lajo pa nig daganan usa siguro mabag-o. Pero common sense ray kinahanglan, nga dili ra dapat no-read, no write qualifications.
