Estrada says he’s fit to be president again

Estrada attributed his remarkable state of health to daily calisthenics, stationary cycling and sauna. “I'm physically and mentally healthy,” he said, qualities that make him fit to run for president next year.

“If there are two or three opposition candidates, I will have to run myself. Baka malusutan pa kami,” he said.

He has commissioned a legal study on whether he could run again for President. The 21-page document concluded that Estrada, who was deposed in a "people power" revolt in January 2001 after serving for two-and-half years, was not covered by the re-election ban because he did not serve the full six-year presidential term.

Elected with over 10 million votes – the highest ever by a presidential candidate -- in 1998, Estrada was impeached in November 2000 and later sentenced to life imprisonment for plunder by the Sadiganbayan. In October 2007, President Arroyo granted him executive clemency, an edict that also restored Estrada's civil and political rights.
