Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos thanked President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III for recognizing the renewed calls for the hero’s burial of her father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
Earlier, President Aquino assigned Vice President Jejomar Binay to head a panel that will resolve the issue on whether Marcos should be given a hero's burial to avoid any possible controversy that may crop up in his administration.
After a series of consultations with various groups, Vice President Binay had finally recommended that late President Marcos be laid to rest in his home province of Ilocos Norte with full military honors.
Reacting to this, Governor Marcos expressed gratitude on Vice President Binay’s recommendation. However, the governor said she has yet discuss this with her family.
The lady governor said that the Vice President's recommendation would probably put closure to the “burial place issue†of the late President Marcos whose body is still being being kept in a refrigerated crypt at the Marcos mausoleum in the family's ancestral home in Batac City since 1993. “We are very glad that after more than two decades, the burial site of my father is finally being discussed although the mechanics and arrangements are still being finalized within our family. However, the most important thing is that our father will be finally brought to his final resting place,†Governor Marcos said.
She said that her family members are set to discuss Binay’s recommendation at the soonest time possible.
For her part, former First Lady now Rep. Imelda R. Marcos still refrained from expressing her comment on Vice President Binay’s recommendation on her late husband’s burial.
She said that Binay’s recommendation is a divine plan that should be realized.
Marcos noted that the “real hero†is not judged by the people but by God.Linkback:
