The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that Ang Ladlad can take part in the May 10 elections, but a Catholic Church official believes that the party-list group professing to represent what it calls the “gays, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)†sector should not be allowed to enter Congress, and said he would discourage people from voting for it.
Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez, chair of the committee on public affairs of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, said the Catholic Church disagreed with the Supreme Court ruling.
He added that accrediting Ang Ladlad as a party-list group would encourage an “abnormality.â€
“We recognize them, respect them, but their situation is an abnormality. Allowing them to have a chance to take a seat in Congress is approving and encouraging an abnormality which is unnatural,†Iniguez told reporters. - inquirer.net
