The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that Ang Ladlad can take part in the May 10 elections, but a Catholic Church official believes that the party-list group professing to represent what it calls the â€œgays, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)â€ sector should not be allowed to enter Congress, and said he would discourage people from voting for it.

Caloocan Bishop Deogracias IÃ±iguez, chair of the committee on public affairs of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, said the Catholic Church disagreed with the Supreme Court ruling.

He added that accrediting Ang Ladlad as a party-list group would encourage an â€œabnormality.â€

â€œWe recognize them, respect them, but their situation is an abnormality. Allowing them to have a chance to take a seat in Congress is approving and encouraging an abnormality which is unnatural,â€ Iniguez told reporters. - inquirer.net

Mao ganing dakung pangutana kay way plataporma unja wa representation sa MARGINALIZED SECTOR ang midagan as representative plus the fact pa nga ang maong anak ni Gloring modagan pud sa pagkakongresman sa Pampanga. Imagine, duhay ijahang daganan, as congressman sa Pampanga ug as representative sa partylist, win or loss asa aning duha. Hehehehehe.

Ag comment pud sa Supreme Court okay ra kono. Hasta appointments sa Sandiganbayan puwede gihapon. Daghang technicalities nga nalutsan ni si Gloring, kinahanglan jud ug charter amendments o di ganing change sa mga provisions plus CLEAR interpretations of the law.

with due respect, i guess the opinion of the catholic church (in the philippines) as expressed by the bishop has nothing to do with GLBT sexual preferences and practices as it has nothing to do with sinners from among its clergy.

clearly the reason stated by the bishop is that this sector is 'abnormal' (please note that it did not say 'sinful'), and the church [perhaps] is simply reiterating its stand that what is 'abnormal' (in the biblical and biological sense) must not be encouraged.

whether such stand is fair or unfair, hypocritical or truthful, is beside the point. the church as a church has to have a stand on social issues involving its flock, and thus has it made its stand against GLBT's recognition as a sector worthy of legislative representation.

hehe, makalingaw imong logic, ms da binsi. paskang tuod kung masumbalikan ang church. on the other hand, it has been part of our country's tradition for the church to make known its stand on issues that have direct bearing on the people at large. so it has made known its stand on an issue that has very real repercussions, in this case the sectoral representation for GLBTs.

yes, GLBTs are human; they may even be better humans than some humans we know. but it's not their humanness that's taken to task by the church; it's their representation as a sector in the legislature. causes, like labor and the environment, are understandably in need of representation. perhaps in the opinion of the church GLBTs are not in need of such. (say, do salesgirls or those with down syndrome need to be represented in congress as sectors?) in the first place, the GLBT's rights as human beings are already covered by laws that govern the rest of us.
