Former Ozamiz City mayor Reynaldo Parojinog denied allegations that he was involved in a plot to kill President Benigno Aquino III and pointed at his political rival, Representative Loreto Leo Ocampos as the one spreading the information about him.
In a press statement sent to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Parojinog said he was saddened by the news linking him to the alleged plot.
“Actually, I got wind of the information about my being accused of plotting to kill President Aquino sometime June this year, prior to him being installed as the country’s chief executive,†he said, adding that the information was “leaked by friends within the Liberal Party circle, some of whom said it was partly based on an information feed of Representative (Loreto Leo) Ocampos.â€
“I did not pay attention because I was confident a process to check its veracity by authorities would establish my innocence,†he added.
Parojinog said that back then, he dismissed the report as “nothing more than a cheap political intrigue.â€
“I found the accusation not only baseless but malicious, meant to cast aspersion on my person,†he said, adding that he was open to an investigation that would clear his name.
“I have full confidence that any impartial probe will result in my being cleared of this unfair allegation,†he said.
He also called on authorities to be prepared to impose sanctions on whoever was responsible for spreading the report. - source: Philippine Daily Inquirer
