No work, no pork.
Nueva Ecija Representative Eduardo Nonato Joson has proposed this policy to ensure that there would always be a quorum during sessions at the House of Representatives.
But Speaker Prospero Nograles was quick to reject this, saying this was unfair to the legislators’ constituents who were the recipients of the “pork barrel†or the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), which is used to finance local projects.
Joson made the proposal after the House has been plagued with absences these past few months, resulting in delays in the passage of important measures.
Joson said stringent measures were needed to compel lawmakers to show up in sessions and participate in legislative work.
Joson said the pork barrel of congressmen could be a good motivation for their attendance.
