Commentary: Economy grows amid political turmoil
By Aurora J. Casimpan
Tacloban City (30 August 2005) -- Despite the preoccupation of some sectors and some opposition legislators to unseat President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, starting with the massing of people forces to the filing of the impeachment complaint, the economy has not been adversely affected as predicted by doomsayers.

Instead of being pulled down, the economy posted a 4.8% growth rate notwithstanding the combined intervention of the global rise of oil prices and the climatic change in the country. Accordingly, the economy like its people has the ability to just bounce around, or be resilient amidst all adversity and land back with a winning number.

Though unable to post the targeted 5.3% growth rate, the economic growth is still a winner.

This phenomenon shows that Filipinos will not wait for leaders to show them the way to survive but will instead find ways to save himself. The posted growth rate shows that turmoil in the name of politics will not deter the Filipino to continue working for himself and for the country's growth. If there are leaders, even if just a few, who show sincerity in showing how the country should move forward, the people will move with those few leaders.

Political bickerings are nothing new in the country and people look at it with jaundiced eyes. The situation usually exhausts itself and while politicians are grandstanding over who is the best, the people goes about the business of surviving.

Hopefully, this country's political leaders will set aside their differences and unite under a regime of good government, fiscal responsibility, grassroots enterprise and the rule of law. The people are waiting for their leaders to join them and work together in looking for oil alternatives and help in the implementation of the government's policies in energy conservation. (PIA-8)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
