The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday urged
Filipinos based overseas to register for the May 2013 polls to reach their target of one million overseas absentee registrants.
"We're hopeful dahil last day na bukas... yung mga overseas Filipino voters natin ay magpa-register na para ma-reach natin ang one million mark," Comelec commissioner Lucenito Tagle told reporters.
Tagle said voters registration in Philippine embassies abroad will end at 5 p.m. on October 31.
"We've been doing this several months na para lahat ng OFWs ay ma-capture natin. Siguro mga 50,000 [registrants] pa," he said.
Tagle said to date, there are at least 950,000 overseas absentee voters registered for next year's polls.
He said those who are about to leave the country may still take part in the elections abroad by registration at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
The voting period for OAV is from April 13-May 13, 2013.
Tagle said automated elections would be conducted in areas where a huge number of Filipinos are located.
