For the Filipino people, it’s going to be a merry Christmas after all, as revealed by Synovate, one of the world’s largest market research firms.
Synovate said the October 2010 results of its Asiabus Survey showed that there is a general upbeat feeling among Filipinos towards the Yuletide season and the coming year.
The research agency interviewed 2,000 male and female consumers, 15 to 64 years old, across all socioeconomic classes from urban areas nationwide. Majority are optimistic about 2011 as they foresee their personal financial situation to be either better (51 percent) or at least stay the same (39%) in the next 12 months.
In fact, optimism for the country is noted, with half of the respondents (47%) saying that they expect a better economic situation for the country, or at the very least, expect that the economy will remain as it is (40%).
As Christmas is nearing, majority (58%) are expecting their holiday celebrations to be just the same as last year, but three out of 10 (27%) disclosed that they are expecting more from the upcoming revelries.
There are plans to spend more this Christmas season compared to last year’s budgets. Interestingly, however, this increased spending would go more to decorations and gifts, rather than to food.
The budget for food would be just the same as last year (57%), with just a fifth (18%) saying that they can afford to spend a little more.
There is an intent, however, to make this year’s celebration more festive, as the majority (58%) will spend more on decorations and 38% percent will spend the same amount as last year.
Come gift-giving time, 42% will spend more and 48% will spend just the same as the previous year on gifts for immediate family. A little over half of the 2,000 respondents have also revealed that they plan to spend more for other relatives and friends. = pna
