September is declared as development policy research month
Cebu City (31 August 2005) -- Based on Malacañang proclamation No. 247, September has been declared as "Development Policy Research Month."

The proclamation enjoins all departments, agencies and instrumentalities of the national government, local government units, government-owned and controlled corporations, the private sector, and the public to actively support the activities and programs lined-up for the "Development Policy Research month."

With the theme, "Services Industry: Growth driver for Economic Competitiveness," the observance gives focus on the role of the services industry to economic development and competitiveness. Services industry includes information and communications technology, business process outsourcing, medical education and audio-visual, among others.

The observance of development policy research month provides the means for promoting, enhancing, instilling and drawing nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and necessity of policy research as a tool for national socio-economic development. It will also ensure public's support to all activities that aims to advance the quality and standard of policy research in the country.

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) has been designated to coordinate all programs and activities that had been lined-up for the month. Some activities include consultative meetings, workshops and discussion forums, preparation and presentation of policy papers, production of posters and banners that can be displayed in institutions and agencies of government and the private sector.
