News Copy: Dalaguete Mayor Jeffrey Belciña is all smiles when Governor Gwendolyn Garcia assured him that the Cebu Provincial Government will once again help Dalaguete farmers by buying their vegetables. This will solve the oversupply of vegetables there.
Recently, Dalaguete farmers are facing an oversupply of vegetables and as a result, are selling them at very low prices. For example, first-class cabbages are sold at P6 per kilo, while the “reject” ones can be bought for as low as P4 per kilo.
In her visit to the town on Thursday, the Governor said the Province will buy these vegetables and donate it to charitable institutions.
Belciña also told the governor that they have been into community pantries to provide households with free vegetables.
At the height of the pandemic last year, Dalaguete also suffered from the effects of lockdown when tons of their vegetables were stranded, unable to cross borders for bigger markets in Cebu City. Governor Garcia solved the problem. The Province purchased the vegetables and supplied them to provincial and city jails, provincial and district hospitals and some charitable institutions. | via #SugboNews2021
