First District Congressman and Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism Edgar M. Chatto authored 12 new laws nationalizing public high schools. Henceforth, these schools will receive funding support from the national government by operation of law, to ensure the delivery of quality education to poor but deserving students. This translates the commitment of the government pursuant to the constitutional mandate on education, in addressing the needs of the education sector such as classrooms, teachers, textbooks and payment of administrative costs.
These laws are: Republic Act No. 9753 – Congressman Pablo Malasarte National High School ; RA No. 9771 – Bantolinao National High School ; RA No. 9804 – Fermin Tayabas National High School ; RA No. 9805 – Fatima National High School ; RA No. 9806 - Baclayon National High School ; Ra No. 9809 - Mansasa National High School ; and RA No. 9810 – Calape National High School .
Congressman Chatto expressed that, “The public education sector may be confronted with the challenges which should not allowed to erode quality education for the needy. These legal frameworks which I crafted are institutionalized in our statute books to provide permanent financial assistance to these schools form the government, in view of the vicissitudes bureaucracy, which may subject the much needed funding support to instability. I am confident that with these laws now in place, our youth will be assured of a better educational foundation.â€
