Bohol Sunday PostThe much-awaited eyeball to eyeball confrontation between two "honorables" of two separate legislative bodies on the issue of the city's drainage problem never took place after one of the protagonists was a no-show.
Until late last night, it was still unknown why City Councilor Danilo Bantugan chickened out from his supposed confrontation with Board Member Alfonso Damalerio II.
A committee of the whole was called by City V-Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso Friday to tackle the concerns of Board Member Alfonso Damalerio,II on the city's drainage problem.
Apparently aware that he was treading into hostile territory, Damalerio appeared ready to be roasted by Bantugan and his colleagues during the Friday SP session. But no Bantugan ever appeared on sight.
With Bantugan out of the session hall, prospects of verbal fireworks exploding never materialized, to the utter frustration of the gallery made up mostly of media people and curious seekers.
Damalerio provoked the sensibilities of Bantugan after he delivered a privilege speech in the halls of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan denouncing the inaction of city officials in addressing the city's drainage problem.
The board member's tirades did not sit well with Bantugan.
During last week's session of the Sangguniang Panglungsud, Bantugan went ballistic with his own privilege speech zeroing in on Damalerio's intrusion into another man's turf.
The meat of Bantugan's barbs was for Damalerio to make an apology to the city council or he will pass a resolution declaring him persona non grata.
Refusing to be cowed, Damalerio retorted that he has nothing to apologize. He said if he were to issue an apology, he would make it on behalf of affected city residents who are suffering the stink of the city's drainage during heavy rainfall when the roads overflowed with rain water laced with sewage odor.
