Former Loon Mayor and now Provincial Board Member Yul Lopez is reportedly being pushed to run for congressman in the first district under the opposition bloc.
A highly placed source said the informal launching of his congressional bid will be done at the Lopez residence in Loon town which is celebrating its vesper day today.
Lopez topped the board member race in the first district during the last election. He is the first degree cousin of former Gov. Rene Relampagos who is reportedly being courted to lead the local opposition in the 2010 elections.
Political pundits said the planned congressional bid of Lopez will bank on the voting strength of Loon, his hometown where he served as town mayor for nine years. He is a physician by profession.
Asked to comment on this, Relampagos in a text message to the Chronicle said there are no personalities for the moment. However, he will be in the forefront of a viable political opposition in the province.
