Press Release: In support of the Earth hour 2021, the Ormoc City Government led by Mayor Richard I. Gomez, together with Environmental and Natural Resources Office (ENRO)-SWM headed by Ingrid Macabare, and City Youth Development Office (CYDO), led by Rolando R. Gaspar, MPA, City Youth Development Officer II, collaborated to make this global environmental movement possible tonight, March 27.
The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
This city had an hour of rotational shutting off of non-essential lights for an hour.
Earth Hour is an annual global environmental movement to encourage individuals and organizations in taking tangible actions and commitments for the planet.
During the activity, Joseph B. Pilapil of City Planning and Development Office gave a talk on 'Climate Reality while the Chairperson of the Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Conservation Committee, SP Member Lalaine Marcos, and Macabare of ENRO gave brief inspiring messages.
The global activity was with the support of EDC and in participation of the PNP, BFP and Philippine Coast Guard.
The Vest Club, OATC and CO2 Band also participated the event.
Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and became the largest collective environmental movement in the world.
