POLITICAL SCENE IN THE FIRST DISTRICT
There are the possible candidates in the First District
1. Former
Governor Rene Relampagos, like Noynoy Aquino his time of discernment is fast approaching and the moment of voters’ registration deadline is nearing, once Relampagos transfers registration to Loon, a vote-rich town with 30,000 voters, that is it, he is running.
2. Former
Senator Ernesto Herrera. His candidacy, however is conditioned on the premise that Vice-Governor Julius Herrera is not going to run for congressman. But there are some reports that there are still efforts to avoid a confrontation between Vice-Governor Julius Herrera and Congressman Edgar Chatto for the governorship. If Julius slides to the congressional seat, then Senator Herrera is out.
At this point, I could say the strongest candidate is former Governor Rene Relampagos considering that he counts with the support of Loon and his being former governor.
Only two districts, the first and third district are up for grabs. In the second district, there is no decent opponent for outgoing Governor Erico Aumentado.
In the third district it will be a strong contest between
Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap and
assistant secretary of the Transportation department Eladio Boy Jala.
People were expecting him what he is going to do about corruption. There must be a program to prosecute those erring officials and also a program to reduce corruption in government, which has run into billions.
