Is Agriculture Sec. Arthur Yap running for congressman in the 3rd district of the province?
This question has lately stirred the political circles of the 3rd district composed of 19 municipalities while some political leaders are agog over the Yap-for-congressman talks.
According to some leaders here, one indication of Yap’s running is his frequent visits in the 3rd district.
Another gauge is the fact that he has committed millions of agriculture funds to help the plight of the farmers, also, mostly, if not, all of the 19 municipalities in the district.
In his speech in Dimiao town, where he was the guest speaker during the foundation day of the town, Yap told the crowd in vernacular not to talk about politics but “what we can do more for our country.â€
As if dismissing allegation he favored the 3rd district because of pouring so much funds, the secretary said other towns would also get slices of the funds.
He was not categorical, in his statement of his running for congress. He has been visible lately, including the activity of Loay fish port and several fiesta activities in Carmen, Anda and Valencia towns.
Some Loboc town residents are watching for Yap if ever he so decides to throw his hat in congressional derby once he registers as a voter with the Comelec in Loboc. His wife is a Lobocanon of the Varquez scion.
In a document obtained by the Chronicle, Yap has committed a total of PhP106.7 million for rehabilitation of communal irrigation systems (CIS) mostly located in the towns of third district.
A total of PhP36.3 million for farm to market roads in Corella, Carmen, Lila, Loay, Loboc, Sevilla and Valencia and another P2 million for farmers training center of Dagohoy town and P1 million for farmers trading center in Sevilla.
