since i left bohol in 1992 to find greener pasture in other places, i can still recall how the province stand in terms of development. 18 years later, i can see improvement but not that much. only the faces of those i know have change a lot. the kids grew up and became adult while adults became old and some already joined our creator. i've been to different provinces and cities across the country because it was part of my work before. i've seen places that i can say impoverished but through the years of struggle they were able to cope up with it and manage to stand and the same show great improvement. take for example, basilan. we always hear in the news that this tiny province up south in mindanao is the haven of terrorist groups and bandits. but look, they already have 2 cities in there. isabela city the capital and the new city of lamitan. just imagine the feat, that accomplishment. how come bohol can't do it? until now it only has 1 city and if not for the airport, pier and some malls tagbilaran is just some city we can call. bohol has vast resources, in fact what boosts bohol's income is the tourism industry because of the natural wonders we have.
bohol was the top tax collector for the 3rd quarter of 2009. but where did those taxes go? hopefully, the next governor whoever it is should focus on how to improve the province more. how he can attract investors, how he will sell the province to them? it's not about how many projects you sponsored or how many resolutions the provincial board had passed because that's what is always expected from them. we see improvement but very very minimal compared to other provinces. and i don't think it's all about income. it's all about how it is managed.
i hope that this may 10, 2010 will be the dawn of new era, new hope and new beginning for bohol. it's nice to read the news on papers, hear the news on radios and watch the news on tv that bohol is the new powerhouse in the country in terms attracting investors, companies putting up their factories, buildings for more jobs to filipinos.
