A well-rounded young leader was elected last Friday as the new federation president of the provincial Sangguniang Kabataan during a purely "no money" election held at the Bohol Tropics Resort Club. He will succeed former national SK president Jane Cajes as president of the SK in the province.
Unlike in the municipal and city SK elections where cash flooded the young people's pockets, the provincial election was observed to be devoid of "vote buying."
Observers said that if that is the new tone of the new leadership of Doxson Asoy, the SK president San Isidro town, then perhaps, a ray of hope might surface in the horizon to totally change the direction of the SK wherein majority of the Boholanos oftentimes demand for its abolition.
Asoy was unopposed after reports leaked to the Chronicle that there was an internal agreement for a possible time sharing with Jetro Nathaniel Lim of Loay town who got elected as the vice president.
Other officers elected were Arlene Rule of Corella as secretary, Lounel Kenneth Guivencan of Dimiao as treasurer, Bjorn Ebojo of Dauis as auditor, Ian Albert Blasé of Balilihan as PRO, Bryan Baguio of Loboc and Jose Jugo IV of Maribojoc as sergeant-at-arms.
The new SK president is the son of San Isidro Vice Mayor and Mrs. Eudocio Asoy while the vice president is the son of BM Brigido and Loay Mayor May Imboy.
WHO'S ASOY?
The new SK provincial president will soon be a board member of the province once he will assume as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. He succeeds Jane Censoria Cajes, daughter of Trinidad Mayor and Mrs. Roberto Cajes.
The 17-yr old new SK prexy is a second year aircraft maintenance student at the Indiana Aeronautic University in Lapu-Lapu City.
He is not new to leadership and challenges as he also served as president at the San Isidro High School during his high school days.
He is active in religious activities being an affiliate of the Knights of the Altar even until his present school. He is involved in the Parish Youth Ministry and is supporting youth build-up in his town.
Gov. Edgar Chatto who was a national figure of the then Kabataang Barangay (SK), spoke to the SK leaders citing the fact that there is a need to provide specific programs and directions of the SK. Likewise, the governor views the need to require these SK leaders to render regular reports of their accomplishments and programs.
"I am not for the abolition of SK," the governor categorically said as he challenged the new young leaders to act diligently in order to change the public perception of what SK is as of today. (Anthony Aniscal)
