Manila Bulletin
Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay has called for the abolition of
barangay elections to avoid unnecessary expenses and save government money and generate it to other projects.
“We should no longer continue with the barangay elections. The government spends millions every three years for the holding of their elections and if we abolish it, unnecessary expenses would be avoided,†Binay shared during the recent local chief executives at 53rd General Assembly of the League Cities of the Philippines (LCP) at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati city.
Rather than holding elections, Binay said he will urge Congress later to have barangay officials be appointed to their post by the mayors so that their performance may even be enhanced.
