By Bohol Sunday PostRepresentatives Edgar Chatto and Roberto Cajes are no longer eligible to run for reelection, stoking fears that they will be fielding their respective spouses to run in their place.
This is of course nothing new. In many parts of the country, it has become commonplace for politicians to field members of their families to run in their place.
In the process, this has effectively negated the spirit of the provision on term limits under the 1987 Constitution.
Pureza Veloso-Chatto, the first district solon's wife, has increasingly been visible reinforcing speculations that she would be running in his place in 2010.
Trinidad Mayor Judith Cajes is also widely expected to run in place of her husband in the next election.
Rep. Adam Relson Jala is still on his first term after winning the congressional derby in the third district in last year's election over former Gov. Rene Relampagos.
Jala took over the position held by his father, former Cong. Eladio Jala who has been appointed to the Department of Transportation and Communication.
Chatto and Cajes however may not just be backseat drivers like Jala in the last election.
Stories are floating that the two solons are not ruling out the possibility of running for the top two positions in the provincial government.
Chatto's name has always surfaced as a gubernatorial timber but Cajes himself is said to be in the running due to a commitment from no less than First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo.
This means that it could either be a Chatto-Cajes tandem or the other way around, Cajes vying for governor with Chatto as his running mate.
As if that is not enough, Chatto's brother-in-law, Tagbilaran Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso is priming himself up to challenge incumbent Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim.
On the other hand, former Sangguniang Kabataan provincial federation president Frances Bobbith Cajes-Auza is being considered to run for Trinidad mayor if her mother throws her hat into the second district congressional race.
