Crime Prevention Week begins Sept. 1

Cagayan de Oro City (30 August 2005) -- “Barangay at Mamamayan Magkaisa: Hadlangan ang Krimen” is the rallying call of the National Police Commission (NaPolCom), which will observe its 11th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) on September 1-7, 2005.

With its slogan “Barangay Linisin, Krimen Alisin,” the celebrations aim to showcase the importance of community involvement and participation, notably at the barangay level, in the prevention of crime.

The NCPW Technical Working Group has lined up various activities to be undertaken during the week-long celebration.

A mass celebrated at the St. Augustine Cathedral on August 31 will formally open the festivities, followed by an Alay Lakad and an opening program to be attended by the member agencies of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) and the local governments of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental.

For the whole month of September, the Philippine Public Safety College Regional Training School (PPSC RTS-10) will then tour public and private schools in the city, holding seminars on the Criminal Justice System (CJS). Discussions will focus on the five pillars of the CJS, namely: Law Enforcement, Community, Courts, Prosecution and Jail.

Meanwhile, a dental outreach mission, in partnership with Lourdes College, will be conducted on September 2 in Opol town, Misamis Oriental, while on September 5 a bloodletting activity with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) will be done at the NAPOLCOM regional office.

Blood donors will be Criminology students of Liceo de Cagayan University, Capitol University, Southern Philippines College and the Cagayan de Oro College.

Bloodletting has been a regular activity of the past two Crime Prevention Week celebrations. It has been well received by the community, more so at this time when blood donations are much needed for dengue patients.

A symposium on RA 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004, at the VIP Hotel round out the week’s activities. Selected barangay officials have been invited to attend the said symposium.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
