The implementation of
Republic Act No. 10175, otherwise known as the "
Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012," will push through on Wednesday after the Supreme Court failed to act on Tuesday on the various petitions questioning its constitutionality.
President Benigno S. Aquino III signed into law
R.A. No. 10175 on Sept. 12, 2012.
The SC has deferred the deliberation on the controversial law due to the absence of several justices. Associate Justices Lucas P. Bersamin, Diosdado M. Peralta and Mariano C. Del Castillo are abroad on official business.
Two other justices were absent during Tuesday's SC en banc session.
Seven separate petitions are set to be deliberated on Tuesday next week.
The seven petitions from various organizations told the SC that several provisions of
R.A. No. 10175 allegedly violate the 1987 Constitution, specifically the provisions on
freedom of speech, equal protection of the law, right to privacy, illegal searches and seizures, and double jeopardy.
