Allowing Foreigners to Own Philippine Lands
« on: February 03, 2009, 08:49:16 PM »
The Committee on Constitutional Amendments of the House of Representatives on Tuesday approved a resolution which seeks to amend the economic provision of the 1987 Constitution.

With a vote of 11 in favor as against four, House Resolution no. 737, authored by Speaker Prospero Nograles, which proposes amendments to Sections 2 and 3, Article 12 of the Constitution to allow the acquisition by foreign corporations and associations, and the transfer or conveyance thereto, of alienable public and private lands, the committee on Constitutional Amendments approved the proposed measure and recommends it for plenary deliberation.

Committee chair and La Union Rep. Victor Ortega, in an interview, said the proposed measure was thoroughly discussed and that all sides were given fair chance to air their manifestations.

With the approval of the committee, he expects the bill to be deliberated at the plenary by March, including what mode to use in amending the 1987 Constitution. - PNA

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Does thismean not having to be marreid in order to buy own purchase land?

I think its a great ideal for foreigners to invest with out getting marreid.

My word look at the current case going on here in Bohol regarding the British bar owner whose wife nearly treid to assinate him 3x's in one weeks time in Panglao!

She wanted to eliminte him just so she could posess all that he has bought for herself after her deed was done.

She was hiding in Leyte but by now has had a warrant out for her arrest since last week.

greedy woman! Greedy Pinay wife taking advantage of her foreign husband.

i really hope this becomes a law soon. having a foreigner husband, i would like our properties to be in his name because in the first place, it is his money, not mine.

Lumine, there are plenty of priveleges accorded to a foreigner to stimulate investments in our country, especially your husband is married to a Filipina (naturalized or not). Please check the website of the Phil Foreign affairs to know the  details.

I think it should be allowed. Foreigners are able to buy American land, even if they aren't US citizens. The King of Saudi Arabia (not American citizen) owns American assets and land.
Even GMA holds some American assets. Foreigners owning Filipino land will stimulate the economy and bring dollars and Euros to the country. Good for local businesses translates in strengthening the local dynamics.

I´m so fascinated with your choice of words Lorenzo, very polite, this is an ill-gotten properties. The money should go to alleviate the quality of life of the poor Filipinos.

The Philippines needs to take advantage of our intrinsic qualities and location. Our beaches are second to none. Our lush environment is exotic. Our lands are fertile. Our people are extremely and highly trained/ intelligent. Our mastery of the English language is something to be marveled at by our other Asian neighbors who have difficulty in speaking English.

Bring foreigners into the Philippines, if you let them own territory, they'll pay taxes for it. They'll end up living in the Philippines, pour resources into the local markets, buy local foods, and grow accustomed to Filipino way of life. And ultimately become 'Filipino'.

Philippines has alot to offer. And at the same time we have alot to gain. A "win/win" situation.

I think Philippines needs to have a blood clause for ownership of land.

My two younger brothers are born in the United States, and are not Filipino citizens. But both of them have talked about visiting Philippines and staying in our homes in Bohol.

I wonder if Philippines has a law that allows Filipino-Americans to own land by blood relation. I mean both of our parents were born in the Philippines.

I know that in the United States, if both of your parents are natural born Americans or American Citizens, even if a child of an American citizen is born abroad, that child will become an American citizen automatically. By American blood right. It is called the American Eagle Right.

Does Philippines have this?

Ako ug akong igsoon (Angel) are dual citizens kai Philippine born man mi duha. Pero kani si Don ug Andre dili man sila na tawo didto.

When I received my US Citizenship 10 years ago, the official asked me, "Do you wish to relinquish your Filipino Citizenship as well?"

I kept both citizenships jud. Am happy to be "Made In The Philippines"

Lumine, will the Belgian government allows dual citizenship? This doesn´t hold true in Germany.

I´m glad to hear that, there was a case that some Turks keep both citizenship, Turkey and German. As the German government discovers this in the city of Hamburg, they confiscate their German passports, and there was panic, they have to renew all their working permits, permit to stay etcetera.
I was asked by the authorities to retain only one passport and I said yes. This was a necessity for my children so it is easier for them to travel.

In the United States, manay, we have the option to relinquish or retain our old citizenships. When the US Official asked if I wanted to relinquish my Philippine Citizenship, I told her that I wanted to keep it. No problem what so ever.

But yea, it is so much easier to travel abroad with a US Passport.

When I studied abroad in The Ukraine for a semester, my flight took me Paris, then to Amsterdam then to Kiev. But had no problems at all traveling from Detroit to Paris. No problem in Amsterdam. And everything went fine in Kiev.

Coming back to the states, one experiences strict screening jud. "Where you were at, how long, why you were abroad."

But it felt good when they say, "Welcome Home"

haha. Home, indeed.
