The Committee on Constitutional Amendments of the House of Representatives on Tuesday approved a resolution which seeks to amend the economic provision of the 1987 Constitution.
With a vote of 11 in favor as against four, House Resolution no. 737, authored by Speaker Prospero Nograles, which proposes amendments to Sections 2 and 3, Article 12 of the Constitution
to allow the acquisition by foreign corporations and associations, and the transfer or conveyance thereto, of alienable public and private lands, the committee on Constitutional Amendments approved the proposed measure and recommends it for plenary deliberation.
Committee chair and La Union Rep. Victor Ortega, in an interview, said the proposed measure was thoroughly discussed and that all sides were given fair chance to air their manifestations.
With the approval of the committee, he expects the bill to be deliberated at the plenary by March, including what mode to use in amending the 1987 Constitution. - PNA
