Ric V. Obedencio writes this Bohol news storyFour potential contenders are interested of the much-coveted top post of the Philippine Councilors League-Bohol chapter.
The latest to surface as strong contender for the PCL seat is Garcia Hernandez lady Kagawad Tita Baja Gallentes.
Gallentes, the only Lakas survivor elected councilor in this limestone-rich town, is said to be determined to
throw her hat in the said race.
Gallentes' bid was boosted with the recent signing of a "manifesto of support" by her colleagues in her town despite being the lone Lakas survivor. Signatories of the manifesto were Kagawads Carmen Jaminal, Agustin Pagaran, Mario Moran, Remedios Acabo, Cesar Madelo, Pio Salmasan, Concordio Jamero and Urbano Macalos together with Mayor Myrna Schreurs and Vice Mayor Miguelito Galendez.
Catigbian Councilor Doris Obena said she will join Gallentes because she is convinced of her cause. She is eyed as Gallentes' vice-president for 1st district. Their (Gallentes, Obena and company) goal is to change the image of PCL as a "non performing" group.
If elected, Gallentes will be the first woman PCL president and the first in 3rd district.
Former Duero councilor Robert Peligro accompanied Gallentes in the campaign sorties in the municipalities.
Banking on "early bird catches worm," re-elected and last-termer city Councilor Danilo A. Bantugan was the first to announce his eagerness to slug it out in the PCL derby.
Incumbent president Brigido Z. Imboy wanted to serve again for the term 2007-2010 after his re-election as councilor in Loay.
Jagna Kagawad Senen Lloren, younger brother of Mayor Exuperio Lloren, will also throw his hat in the race.
Meanwhile, lawyer Antonino Jumawid, number one Batuan town councilor who earlier manifested interest in the PCL presidency, withdrew from the race.
The PCL-Bohol past presidents were Atty. Felix R. Uy of Baclayon; then city Kagawad Atty. Paulino Clarin; and businessman former City Councilor George Lao, the first PCL head.
PCL federated president represents the municipal councilors as ex-officio member to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
