Tilling the soil and planting crops to feed a hungry world,
Hoping for rain to water the fertile soil,
Waiting for harvest to see how the yield unfurled,
Anticipating satisfaction and income for that which they toil.
Long days of tired bodies, aching backs and sweat,
Worrying about crop eating pests, hail and drought,
And of severe storms that could be a destroying threat,
Rollercoaster of joy, sadness, determination and doubt.
Striving year after year to bring in a good harvest,
Combines working until they cannot see to proceed,
Trucks lined up at the elevators, wishing each other the best,
Through skill, determination & trials, many times they succeed.
Think of what farmers bring to the table,
Eggs, bacon and milk from the cow,
The farmer’s worth is not just a fable,
They excel in what they do, let them come take a bow.
The farmers also grow wheat and milo,
For our cows and horses, they make hay,
They have many a tall silo,
Working from dawn until dark every day.
For their sacrifice and food they grow,
For the beauty of the wheat fields when in the evenings glow,
For the stamina and determination they show,
Respect and dignity to them, let us bestow.
